This is a piece that was reproduced from an original buckboard wagon seat.
When Barry first got the idea for building this reproduction, he needed to find some way of forging the hardware, which is something he hadn't done himself up to this point. After searching unsuccessfully for a smith to do this type of work, Barry made the decision to try it himself. He began hand-forging the hardware at the shop, and has been doing it ever since.
This piece comes as you see it to the right, or with a turned leg base. Drawers are optional.
The buggy seat has become popular since Barry first introduced it into the Lattimor House Collection in 1993. It was something he thought would sell well, and his hunch was right. “I just wanted to turn something old into a practical furniture piece,” he says.
