The design and proportions of the Lattimor House enclosed Flat-to-Wall Cupboard come from the German tradition of the Waterloo area. This basic design became typical of Waterloo dish cupboards; both glazed and solid-door cupboards were popular in the last half of the 19th century. The glazed-door style of the piece pictured here reflects a more formal German design, and was not often found in average rural homes in Upper Canada.
As a modern furniture piece, the cupboard is especially useful in a dining room or kitchen, because of its generous storage space and deep pie shelf. The glazed doors and decorative panels make it especially pleasing aesthetically. Hardware includes turned black walnut knobs and cast-iron turn buttons. The enclosed base of the cupboard contains a single centre shelf.
