The pie or food safe was a simple storage cupboard that was used for short-term storage of food items that didn't require cold temperatures. Food lockers of this type were common in farmhouse kitchens, serving as a sort of poor man's pantry.
The Lattimor House pie safe is copied from a style typical of that used by Pennsylvania-German settlers in mid-19th century Upper Canada. Particular to this style of food safe is the decorative punched tin panelling on the front. Some original examples also had punched tin sides.
The Lattimor House Pie Safe comes in both a single- and double-door style. It can be used for kitchen storage, but is also useful in other parts of the house for storing such things as linens.
